Spring gardening tips from the members of the GCA Horticulture Committee:
- Invest in high performance quality gardening tools. (like the Japanese hori hori knife). - Divide and replant perennials - be sure to share any extras with your friends!
- Identify spots in your garden for growing a few plants from seed.
- Start keeping a garden journal (or if you have slacked off return to this good habit)!
- Know the date of the last frost in your area. Here is a link to frost dates based on zip codes: https://morningchores.com/frost-dates/
-Don’t cut back plants or rake leaves out of beds until daytime temperature are consistently in the 50’s. This will protect the habitat of the many beneficial insects and pollinators that over-wintered in your garden.
It's so hard to wait! But with more things coming up, I have started to cut back the old growth. These temps are so crazy. High of 81 tomorrow and then a low of 39 on Sunday.
