Civic Projects: Ramsay House Garden

As the Old Town Alexandria Visitors Center, the Ramsay House welcomes over 70,000 visitors a year. Unfortunately, the garden was not very welcoming. It was not wheelchair accessible, had limited seating, and the foundation plantings were either overgrown or in poor condition.

Ramsay House staff approached the Garden Club of Alexandria requesting help In improving the garden. The Club

and the City signed an agreement to create a space to truly welcome visitors and residents with new plantings, new

seating options, and amenities like a drinking fountain with a bottle filler. Designed by landscape architect Joan

Honeyman, ASLA, every effort has been made to make the garden sustainable, attractive and functional to improve the experience for visitors and residents alike.
